The initiative, called TREES, or Texas Recovery for Ecological and Environmental Stability, aims to restore areas where the flood stripped native trees from the riverbank. The trees are intended to help stabilize the banks, filter water and provide habitat for wildlife. “Every tree we plant will carry a piece of what we’ve built together for generations to come,” said Katherine Trumble, the garden’s president and CEO. The Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country has invested $3 million in the initiative through its Kerr County Flood Relief Fund. Donations to TREES will be matched dollar for dollar up to $1 million through April 15, 2027, the garden said. Since the initiative launched in August 2025, volunteers and garden staff have collected more than 850,000 native seeds from the river’s canopy — enough to grow all 50,000 trees, the garden said.
