According to the Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Office, on the evening of Nov. 5, 2026, K-9 Sgt. Dustin Crawford was conducting traffic enforcement on I-10 when he stopped a black Nissan Altima for a traffic violation. The stop happened at about 5:30 p.m. near mile marker 620. During the stop, Crawford “observed indicators of criminal activity,” the sheriff’s office said. The office said K-9 Zeus was deployed and alerted to the odor of narcotics inside the vehicle. A search of the trunk led to the discovery of two pieces of luggage containing 25 bundles of suspected cocaine with a total weight of 31.90 kilograms, the sheriff’s office said. The driver, identified as Rodrigo Valdez of Laredo, was taken into custody and transferred to the Drug Enforcement Administration for federal prosecution, according to the sheriff’s office. The sheriff’s office said the seizure was the result of proactive traffic enforcement and an ongoing partnership with federal agencies aimed at disrupting the flow of narcotics through the region.
